The Reserve (West)
This 12,300 sq. ft. home located in the Palm Springs Valley includes as 1,200 sq. ft. basement, an abundance of landscaped open space, and a site facing a beautiful golf course and mountain range.
The primary design concept was to create a “canopy roof” that would float above the central living area, thereby blending the interior and exterior spaces. As one enters the home, one is surprised to view the small wood clad support “trees” which only adds to the lightness of the floating roof.
In order to minimize the sun’s impact and at the same time connect the two structures, a continuous teak trellis system becomes the dominate design element. The owner’s love of art played an important influence in the design. Realizing the conflict between maximizing views and displaying major art, the floor plan was developed to meet that challenge especially for their glass collection and important sculpture.
