History
It all started in the 6th grade, the desire to be an architect. Knowing what I wanted to be allowed me to work for various architects throughout high school and later at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in California. I graduated on the dean’s list, and after completing my military obligations, I worked for various architectural firms in southern California improving my responsibilities and experience in all forms of structures and complexes.
In 1961, I joined the prestigious architectural firm of William Perceira F.A.I.A. and Associates in Los Angeles, California, eventually being named as Director of Design for the 120 member firm, working on projects throughout the country. Several of the projects that the firm was involved in was the LAX airport, master planning Catalina Island, and the City of Irvine, high rise office buildings such as the Transamerica building in San Francisco, civic office structures and destination resorts.
In 1967, I was asked to head the national building company, The Larwin Company, as Director of Design and Planning, where I designed 1000’s of residential units of apartments, condominiums, single family detached homes and resort complexes.
In 1970, I opened my own firm in Newport Beach, California. My firm quickly expanded to include large scale land planning, designing award winning residential and commercial projects, religious structures and retail centers. Years later I merged with another architectural firm, where I became president of Ladd, Kelsey and Woodard working on major retail centers, planned communities, office structures and custom homes. The firm expanded to open another office in Orlando, Florida where the firm continued to expand in all aspects of architecture and land planning.
In 1980, my partners retired leaving me to continue the many projects in various parts of the country. In doing so, my firm received over (85) design awards in all aspects of architecture. I was also nominated to become a Fellow in the American Institute of Architects, a very prestigious award in my profession. I have spoken in many housing conventions as well as writing monthly articles as the architectural critic for the Los Angeles/Daily Pilot in Orange County, California.
I now reside in a desert home in La Quinta, California with my wife, where I continue to design high-end custom homes in the major private country clubs in the Palm Springs valley as well as several commercial projects such as a Mazda auto center and several office and medical buildings.
I take great pride in introducing creative design solutions to my client’s needs. Effective service and a “team attitude approach” guarantee that the entire process is both enjoyable and fulfilling.
As you review the various projects, especially the custom homes, you will see that my philosophy is not imposing a particular design style on my clients, rather exploring their needs, life styles, site conditions and governmental codes. Then with the system of “design with models”, I explored various alternatives culminating in a final submission to my clients. Finally, I understands the necessity of an effective design.
Most important is my personal involvement. I am very selective on the amount of projects I am willing to work at one time as I believe this commitment to personal service, continuous involvement and design excellence will guarantee to my clients a unique and rewarding conclusion.
